Canadian Virtual University - Online students win $10,000

$10,000 to successful online students

Over 600 students applied for cash gifts offered in celebration of our 10th anniversary last year. Congratulations to the winners, who started and completed at least one of our courses last year. This is what they say about the benefits of distance education.

Benefits of distance education

why did you choose a distance rather than classroom course?

Canadian Law, Politics and Aboriginal People

I enjoyed the layout of the courses. It was very easy to follow and complete the assignments which flowed from the readings. I live in a small community and do not have a driver's licence to travel to the nearest city. Learning at a distance was my only option unless I moved.

Project Management

I could go along at my own pace, and the instructor was very helpful.

It wasn't offered where I am located and I really wanted to take it.

The ability to do the course when and where I wanted to. I work, am a new mother and volunteer a lot. Therefore, it was difficult to attend a classroom course.

I most enjoyed the interaction between the professor and students via a communication portal called DND learn.

Much of what I learned came from online discussion.

It allowed me to spend more time with my family while pursing my goals.

Professional Ethics

I found my course instructor to be extremely helpful in guiding me through my first online course experience. In order to attend the nearest university, I would need to commute two and a half hours. Online learning has, therefore, allowed me to complete graduate level courses without having to disrupt my family and work commitments.

Second Language Instruction

It was great to chat with others about issues in the classroom and to discuss important topics relating to the field of education. It made it so much more rewarding than the classroom setting, as there are many opportunities to chat and share resources. It is very flexible and after a long day, you can leisurely complete your course material when you have time.

Caroline

University of Manitoba

Interpersonal Communications

The learning was excellent. The books assigned were very helpful, and the professor was very helpful and encouraging. I work full time and live an hour and a half away from a university.

Gregg

Thompson Rivers University

Leadership Fundamentals

The course offered a variety of resources to enrich  the learning experience.

Online courses offer greater flexibility than courses offered in a classroom. There is also greater course selection.

Distance education is the best way to pursue one's education while working full time. Working on my own time and from the comfort of my own home, I can pursue a higher education which hopefully will transfer into a promotion.
